As part of a global operation led by Europol, Greek authorities arrested a 38-year-old man believed to be the mastermind behind a major malware network that infected hundreds of thousands of computers worldwide.
The operation, called Operation Endgame, targeted tools such as the infostealer Rhadamanthys, the remote-access Trojan VenomRAT and the botnet Elysium — infrastructure used to steal credentials, hijack crypto wallets and spy on webcams.
Worldwide authorities shut down 1,025 servers and seized 20 domains linked to the cyber-criminal network.
In the suspect’s residence police found source code for the malware, evidence of websites promoting it, and digital wallets. Among the confiscated items was a wallet with roughly $140,000 in cryptocurrencies. Investigators say the suspect had access to over 100,000 crypto wallets of victims — potentially amounting to millions of euros in stolen assets.
