A former NFL linebacker was among more than 250 individuals arrested in a large-scale human trafficking sting operation in Florida, which also led to the detention of three dozen undocumented immigrants, authorities reported.
Adarius Taylor, 34 — who played seven seasons in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carolina Panthers, and Cleveland Browns — was taken into custody last month during a multi-agency effort dubbed “Operation Fool Around and Find Out,” according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Grady Judd stated that Taylor allegedly brought his 6-year-old child to the location of the sting and left the child in the car while he went inside.
“Apparently, he took one too many hits as a linebacker, because his brain cells are scrambled,” Judd remarked, as reported by the Orlando Sentinel.
The child was immediately placed into the care of the Florida Department of Children and Families, which participated in the operation.
Taylor was one of 255 people arrested during the nine-day initiative, conducted from May 2 to May 10. Among them were 36 undocumented immigrants.
He faces charges of felony negligent child abuse without bodily harm and misdemeanor solicitation of prostitution, according to the arrest affidavit.
Of those arrested, 141 were charged with soliciting prostitution, 93 with offering to commit prostitution, 10 with related offenses such as aiding or transporting sex workers, and 11 with traveling to meet a minor for sexual activity or other child exploitation crimes, authorities said.
Four individuals were identified as potential human trafficking victims and were offered support services.
Taylor’s last professional appearance was in 2020 with the Carolina Panthers, where he started in two games.
