Visa has announced the launch of the Visa Threat Intelligence Platform (VTIP), a new cybersecurity solution designed to help financial institutions detect and respond to cyber threats before they escalate into fraud and financial losses. The platform extends the same defensive capabilities Visa uses internally to protect its own global payments network.

The underlying premise of VTIP is that fraud is rarely an isolated event but rather a downstream consequence of earlier cyber incidents — credential theft, data compromise or system exploitation — that go undetected until transactions are already affected. Compromised payment credentials can originate at any point across the payments ecosystem, from merchants and processors to issuers and service providers, and are frequently trafficked on dark web marketplaces before being misused.

Visa currently blocks approximately 90 million cyberattacks and 11 million phishing emails each month across more than 200 countries. VTIP was developed and tested internally against real-world attacks before being made available to clients, effectively making Visa its own first customer for the product.

The platform bundles several intelligence modules tailored specifically to the financial sector: threat and vulnerability intelligence covering malware indicators and exploitable exposures, brand intelligence to detect impersonation attempts, digital identity monitoring to protect executives and employees, and financial intelligence that surfaces compromised payment credentials from the dark web and enriches them with insights from Visa’s own network data.

Visa framed the launch as part of its broader commitment to ecosystem security, noting that the company has invested over 13 billion US dollars in technology over the past five years, with a focus on fraud reduction and network resilience.
